Paxton Media selects Brainworks for next generation advertising and web publishing solution

Paxton is a privately held media company with holdings that include 39 newspapers and a TV station, WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky and numerous weekly newspapers, mostly in the southern United States.

Sayville, NY, December 2007 - Brainworks Software, the leading provider of newspaper advertising and circulation systems announced the signing of a contract for a 500 user integrated advertising system.

Paxton Media Group traces its’ roots to 1896, when a group of investors headed by William F. Paxton launched The Evening Sun by buying the assets of the failing Paducah Standard at 214 Broadway. The cost was $8,900, and the men started with $10,000 capital. In 1929, Paxton's son, Edwin J. Paxton, who had taken over as editor, bought out the rival News-Democrat. After the merger, the newspaper became The Sun-Democrat, and operations were moved to the current location at 408 Kentucky Avenue in 1934. The name changed to The Paducah Sun in 1978 at the request of Jack Paxton, editor at the time and grandson of Edwin J. Paxton.

May 28, 1957, WPSD television, (the PSD stands for Paducah Sun-Democrat) went on the air as the company-owned television station based in Paducah. The company operated only The Paducah Sun and WPSD-TV until 1989, when it began acquiring other newspapers.

Paxton Media Group is currently installing a company-wide multi-clustered configuration and is in the process of implementing the Brainworks integrated advertising system. The system includes classified, retail and preprint advertising as well as web ad order entry, web publishing, client web access, data mining, sales force automation, integrated marketing, sales budgeting and interfaces to numerous third party systems. The Paxton Media Group system will consist of six clustered data centers at key business locations including corporate headquarters and all of the group’s publications will operate using Citrix over Wide Area Network connections. “Providing users with standardized toolsets and the flexibility to maintain their local identity and allowing management instant access to all financial and sells data is a major benefit to their organization”, stated Jo Ann Froelich, Brainworks Corporate Business Manager.

“We needed a business solution that would allow our local publishers and corporate management to have a 360-degree view of our business at all times so that we could make critical business decisions in a timely manner instead of always looking in the rearview mirror”, said David Mathis, Paxton Corporate Controller. “Brainworks meet our technical requirements and supported our business goals:”
• Centralized Data Management
• Reduced data duplication
• Better decision making ability
• Increased operational efficiency
• Increased customer satisfaction
• Generate new and additional revenue

John Barry, President of Brainworks Software added; “The Paxton Media Group is an exciting, energized organization. Led by Paxton President David Paxton, and VP, Jay Frizzo they are transforming their organization through innovation and an intense focus on consolidation. They recognize the importance of choosing vendors that matched their creativity and drive. For this reason, we at Brainworks are particularly pleased to have been selected for such an important role to centralize their organization into business units that will share resources, utilize cross selling and offer their valued customers service and support to grow their business.”
