The Buffalo News Selects Brainworks Advertising
Sayville, Long Island, February, 2007 – Brainworks Software, the leading provider of newspaper advertising and circulation systems for North America has announced the signing of a contract for a one hundred twenty-five user integrated advertising system to The Buffalo News. The News will implement a complete Brainworks integrated advertising system including classified, retail and preprint advertising as well as web ad order entry, web publishing, client web access, data mining, sales force automation, integrated marketing, sales budgeting and interfaces to numerous third party systems.
“After an extensive system search, The Buffalo News has chosen the Brainworks advertising and finance system” said Sherri Deaton-Callahan, Assistant Advertising Director at the News. “We feel that the Brainworks system gives us the most flexibility for the future, the largest upsell opportunities and a new approach to handling our web & preprint business. We are extremely impressed with the support, flexibility, and vision of the company and look forward to our partnership.”
“The search for ‘the perfect advertising system’ at The Buffalo News was a long, detailed, and methodical process,” said Glenn Stern, Manager, Management Information Services. “In short, we needed a feature rich system that would provide the tools our sales staff would need to compete in the highly competitive advertising market, the financial elements to rate and invoice our customers accurately, and the reporting functionality to easily and thoroughly measure and analyze our business. This combined with a refreshing attitude on the part of Brainworks to partner with us to continually improve their product led to our selection of Brainworks. “
“We are thrilled that The Buffalo News has selected Brainworks as their partner as they begin the arduous task of transforming themselves into a full service media company,” stated John Barry, President of Brainworks. “The selection process utilized by the News was the most comprehensive that we have ever encountered. We very much appreciate the time and energy Buffalo devoted to the selection process. I cannot say enough about the team at the Buffalo News. They represent a dazzling collection of talent and experience – Highly astute, competent, discerning, focused, and all with a wonderful work ethic. I am honored to be selected by a team that is so capable and that has done their homework so thoroughly. And I am thrilled to undertake a project which will bring together the talents of the Brainworks team with the remarkably outstanding group of professionals at The Buffalo News.”
“The Buffalo News is excited about the opportunity to begin implementing Brainworks software for Advertising and Finance after an exhaustive and intensive six-month search,” said Tammy Castellana, Buffalo News Project Manager. “Our search consisted of contacting over 30 newspapers for references and feedback, several newspaper site visits, and a two-month, in-house vendor comparison workshop. This workshop provided the opportunity for all departments utilizing the software to have hands on experience and submit their feedback. Upon completion of this very thorough process, it was clear that Brainworks surpassed all competitors, both with respect to product functionality as well as ease of use. Brainworks philosophy of working together with their clients and drawing off the vision of their customers to continually enhance their product is refreshing and has earned our trust and respect. Brainworks is committed to responding quickly to industry changes and it is in this partnership that The Buffalo News will be able to transition from a newspaper company to a full service media company.”
The paper, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway., Inc., publishes The Buffalo News with a daily circulation of 260,000 as well as a number of special publications. The installation is scheduled to begin in March and is planned to complete in the first quarter of 2008. Brainworks is replacing an Sii classified system and an Atex/Geac/CJ AIM advertising system as well as several internally developed information systems.
“It is extremely gratifying to realize that the Buffalo News selected Brainworks on the basis of our hard work during the selection process, as well as Brainworks’ products themselves,” said Rick Sanders, Brainworks’ Business Development Manager. “We look forward to demonstrating that same level of effort throughout the project and beyond.”
